the Three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Modeling in ALEGRA*

We discuss the formulation of a resistive MHD algorithm within the context of the ALEGRA shock physics code. The equations for the magnetic vector potential are discretized using finite elements and solved using the AZTEC linear algebra package. The formulation will be described and the consequences of solving this system for large numbers of elements will be discussed. Example computations will be shown demonstrating the parallel ALE capability available in ALEGRA and the MHD modeling.
