From: Victor A Bandy
Subject: MGNet White Pages?

I was just looking through the Web MGNet and I thought of something that I
would like to see added to it. It would be nice to have a directory of
multigrid researchers, maybe something like NA-Net has, but at least names,
affiliation and e-mail address and possibly research area.

The reason I mention this, is that I have ended up lately raking my brain
trying to think of who I might be able to get some help from and then having
to figure out how to get a hold of them. So, I've been using the NA-Net white
pages for some addresses and looking up university homepages after getting the
schools from various papers. Needless to say this has been very inefficient
and time consuming without helping my research at all.

So, how about it? I think that we could all benefit from a directory of
multigrid researchers. Yes, I know this site also deals with domain
decomposition and a list of those researchers would also be useful.

I'll start the list off.

Subject: BLAS

The topic of parallel BLAS and Sparse BLAS will be discussed at a workshop in
Tennessee in November. While this is not a multigrid or domain decomposition
topic, many of us do use the BLAS and whatever comes out of this workshop may
well affect us or our colleagues. The papers on the Sparse BLAS have been
on MGNet for quite some time in the directory

The parallel BLAS paper can be accessed through netlib using the command

    rsh -l anon ls -l lapack/lawns/

If you have any comments, send them to the relevant authors or you can send
them to me and the message will be forwarded.

    Preliminary Proceedings
    Special Issues of SISC
    Student Paper Competition

The focus of this conference will be iterative methods for linear and
nonlinear systems of equations. This includes theory, algorithm development,
large scale applications, and parallel implementation.

Morning an afternoon sessions will consist of individual talks of
approximately 25 min. each. Workshops will be held in evenings.

    Student Papers Dec. 15, 1995
    Abstracts Jan. 15, 1996
    Lodging Reservations Feb. 8, 1996
    Early Registration Feb. 8, 1996
Papers for Proceedings March 15, 1996
Special Issue Papers May 1, 1996

In order to guarantee a spot on the program, each speaker will be asked to
submit an abstract by Jan. 15, 1996. Up until March 15, 1996, the abstract
may be replaced by an extended abstract of no more than 7 pages. The
abstracts will be combined in to a preliminary proceedings and distributed to
the conference participants. Support for the Preliminary Proceedings is
provided by Cray Research, Inc.

Speakers will be urged to submit a paper to a special issue of SIAM Journal of
Scientific Computing. These papers will be subjected to a rigorous refereeing
process under the supervision of the program committee. Papers will be due no
later than May 1, 1996. Authors are urged to limit the length of papers to 20

Travel and lodging assistance will be awarded to student authors judged to
have the best research papers. Papers containing original research due mainly
to the student must be received before December 15, 1995. They must be singly
authored and may be no more than 10 pages in length. Sending only an abstract
is unacceptable. A panel of judges selected from the program committee will
determine the best papers. The authors of the three best papers will be given
a travel stipend, free lodging and registration, and they will be expected to
present their papers in a special session at the conference. A number of
other students who participate in the competition will be awarded free lodging
and registration depending on the availability of funds.

Women and minority scientists and students are especially encouraged to
participate in this conference. Special funds may be available to those who
submit a request for travel funds which contains a brief statement of the
importance of the meeting to their research and addresses their monetary need
to attend this conference.

The program will include special time set aside for workshops. Conference
participants wishing to organize a workshop should contact the Workshop
Chairman, Steve Ashby at (510) 423-2462 or fax (510) 422-6675 or e-mail at

Potential contributors should submit an abstract of no more than 7 pages to

University of Colorado Program in Applied Math
    Campus Box 526
    Boulder, CO 80309-0526

If you submit your abstract by e-mail, please do NOT send a TeX or LaTex file.
It will be returned if you do. Instead, please send either a postscript file
or an ASCII file. Deadline for submission of abstracts is January 15, 1996.

The conference will be held at Copper Mountain, Colorado, located 75 miles
west of Denver. Condominium accommodations and adjacent meeting rooms are
located in the Mountain Plaza Conference Center located at the base of the
Copper Mountain ski lifts.

Please mail the attached registration form with the conference fee. You will
receive a discounted rate if your payment is postmarked before February 8,
1996. Registration fees include a copy of the Preliminary Proceedings, a
reception on Monday evening, April 8, coffee breaks, and a banquet on Thursday
evening, April 11. Cancellations received before March 8, will be refunded
less a $50 handling fee. No refund will be issued for cancellations received
after March 8, 1994.

Registrations should be sent to:

University of Colorado Program in Applied Math
    Campus Box 526
    Boulder, CO 80309-0526

A block of condominiums has been reserved for the conference. Each type of
accommodation will be available in limited quantities on a first-come,
first-serve basis. A lodge room has one or two queen beds, and a two-bdrm.
condominium has one or two queen beds in each bedroom, two baths, a kitchen, a
dining area, and fireplace. Please be sure to verify the number of beds with
your reservationist. Group rates are available from April 8-14, 1996. These
rates are:
